Activism and...telling the parents

For my parents, people who go to court are people who have done something wrong. Even when they know you, they are not going to change their mind. They may think “my daughter is not a bad person”, but they have stereotypes. And they will worry because I am in another country. Maybe they think I don’t know what I am doing, because my brother is police and they listen to him everyday.

But because I travel, then it changes my perspective. I realise that the law system can be unfair and that I am doing the right thing. It is hard to start talking about it to them. After explaining alot they will ask questions. ..Or maybe they won’t ask questions, they will just think with stereotypes. Even if they don’t ask they will be worried and I need to show them that I know what I am doing and that I am happy.

Activism is part of my life. They know everything about the campaign from the beginning. On Sunday I talk to them for two hours on the phone, it is important to me because it is something that has happened in my life and I don’t want to hide things. But I haven’t told them about arrest yet.

They show me different things in different ways and I can show them things in a different way, different ways of living. I can see that over my life my father’s opinions have changed; I can see that we influence each other. They try to understand me. I know that they have trust in me and at the same time feel worried.
