Approximately one year ago, Israel unleashed its attack on the Gaza Strip – amidst its ongoing siege and occupation – killing more than 1,400 Palestinians, the majority of them civilians.

From Alaska to Adelaide, on 27 December, people worldwide demonstrated in their towns to remember the assault, including Glasgow and Edinburgh. At the Edinburgh gathering, fifty people held banners and placards at the foot of the Mound, appealing to passing bargain hunters to remember the people of Gaza.

Gaza Freedom March

Speakers including Liz Elkind, former chair of the Scottish Trades Union Congress, and Mick Napier spoke via a live link up as one of the twelve members of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign who have joined the Gaza Freedom March (GFM) that was aiming to enter Gaza via the Rafah crossing.

The GFM aims to bring together individuals and groups from all over the world in what organisers describe as “an historic initiative to break the siege that has imprisoned the 1.5 million people who live there”.
