Residents of the Palestinian village of Bil'in were celebrating last month after the Israeli High Court decided in favour of their petition calling for a change in the route of the illegal separation wall which encircles their village. The victory comes after 30 months of weekly nonviolent resistance actions by locals as well as Israeli and overseas activists. X At the beginning of September, two intrepid activists set off on an ambitious six-month journey through Europe in search of small-scale, long-term experiments that demonstrate alternatives to the capitalist system by actually living them. “Paths Through Utopias” will produce a blog (http://www.utopias.eu/), a book, a film, workshops and performances - and regular reports in Peace News! X There's also been an encouraging amount of good news in the mainstream press this month, which we think is worth mentioning here... the unveiling of the Nelson Mandela statue in London's Whitehall, the Sunni-Shia talks with Sinn Fein's Martin McGuinness and the South African Truth and Reconciliation folk, and the US U-turn on North Korea (how quickly things can change when there is the political will).
