 | 20-Jul-2005ID card refuseniks pass 10,000 target | by: PN
Britain: Established in 2004 the NO2ID campaign was set up as an "organisation opposed to the government's planned ID card and the National Identity Register".
In June 2005 the campaign launched a pledge of resistance to the proposed cards, asking another 10,000 to sign up. The first pledge reads as follows:
"I will refuse to register for an ID card and donate £10 to a legal
defence fund but only if 10,000 other people will also make this same
pledge"
and was signed by NO2ID's National Coordinator Phil Booth.
In the past few days that target of 10,000 has been reached and passed, with today's figure's standing at 10,400+.
Peace News congratulates NO2ID on pushing the debate and getting people involved and committed to resisting the ID card scheme.
The pledge can be signed at http://www.pledgebank.com/refuse until 9 October 2005.
