Stop the War Coalition and the Muslim Association of Britain have called a "solidarity gathering" under the banner "remember the vistims of the bombings - defend the muslim community", to take place at 2pm on 17 July in Russell Square, central London. Participants are asked to bring flowere and to wear either white or black clothing.
ORIGINAL POST FROM 7-8 JULY
Yesterday a series of explosions took place across the public transport network in central London. One of the underground stations affected is Kings Cross. As far as we know, everyone associated with Peace News, War Resisters' International, Voices (UK), Network for Peace and Housmans ... is fine!
It was confirmed yesterday that it was a number 30 bus (en route to Hackney) which was bombed close to Tavistock Square (behind the Friends Meeting House - Quakers swung into action and the Meetig House was used as an emergency respite area), the dead have still not been counted due to the nature of - what Transport for London euphemistically called - the "incident on the number 30".
In Scotland the G8 leaders have been queuing up to gain political capital out of the attacks for the "war on terror". George Bush is reported to have said: "The war on terror goes on. ... We will not yield to these people."
Today (Friday) the streets remain (relatively) quiet, though police choppers and recovery crews are in evidence as the task of recovering more bodies from the tube tunnel near Kings cross continues.
There have now been three clear calls for action by different groups and networks in Britain:
London Bombs and G8-Politics - terrorist acts of a system in crisis
Sent from the "Gigantic Police Cordon aka Edinburgh"
While the political leaders of the world's ruling nations hide away in the
Scottish countryside in order to plan future terrorist acts (eg the
extension of their wars, privatisation, welfare and wage cuts), other
leaders-in-waiting bomb London. We don't want to be silenced either by a
state of fear or by a police state.

THE LONDON BLASTS: AN ANTI-WAR RESPONSE
Yesterday's horrific events in London demand an active response from the
movements for peace and justice.<>br />
Justice Not Vengeance and Voices in the Wilderness UK are proposing that
anti-war and other groups around the UK hold silent vigils in their town
centres at some point over this weekend (in Hastings, a vigil is being held
in front of the town hall at
6pm on Friday).
