London: Hosted and opened by John Hegley, the concert included renowned singer Carol Grimes and her band with a guest support performance by Annie Whitehead on trombone, folk singers Bob Davenport and Robb Johnson, ballad singer Alex Valentine, as well as two exciting bands, the Angel Band and Celloman (Ivan Hussey). Interestingly, Carol Grimes came straight from playing to sell out audiences at the London Jazz Festival.
In the words of ‘Stop the War,’ the concert went very well and there was tons of positive feedback as people really enjoyed themselves. Approximately 200£ was raised for both Stop the War and Medical Aid for Iraq. About 150 tickets were sold, although they considered this figure less than expected, maybe due to it being held one week before Christmas.
Medical Aid for Iraq is a registered charity, specifically set up to send medical aid for children in Iraq. It was founded at the New Statesman magazine after the Gulf War. They are considered to be one of the most respected and successful NGO agencies to work in Iraq. The funds will be used to obtain urgently needed supplies.
