Peace jukebox: on-line anti-war songs

by: Peace not War Music Project

Worldwide: Combining music and peace has resulted in the peace jukebox. Hours of anti-war music are available for free. Many of the songs were written during the 1st term of the Bush presidency. Not only can you hear high-quality MP3s, but you can also obtain the lyrics on this ad-free music site. It can be argued that this period is one of the most prolific in terms of protest song-writing in recent history. Current home-studio technology makes it possible for the world to hear these radical songs.

Sonic Youth, Beastie Boys, Jurassic 5, Public Enemy, Jane's Addiction, The Cure, Ani DiFranco, Black Eyed Peas, Green Day, Faithless, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Lenny Kravitz, Paris, System of a Down, Propagandhi, Banco de Gaia, Zach de la Rocha and Noam Chomsky are just some of the artists, and you can music from genres as varied as hip hop, rock, punk, dance, acoustic, classical and spoken word.

As we speak, over 500 anti-war songs from different kinds of musicians have been submitted to go on-line. Musicians are invited to submit their songs as MP3s with full lyrics and credit information included. A translation facility is being developed for non-English speakers to read the lyrics in multiple languages for which translators are needed.

Local peace groups are selling the Peace Not War CDs so as to raise funds for their campaigns and the Jukebox is an inspiring resource for everyone involved in the new global peace movement.
