Worldwide: 2nd November: People from all over the world joined together for simultaneous Naming The Dead ceremonies to remember all those who have died since the “liberation” of Iraq. The vigils took place in Iraq, Australia, Italy, Spain and Switzerland as well as in the UK where 38 separate vigils took place. The event was timed to coincide with the US elections, as it was felt that this was an appropriate moment to commemorate the victims of the war, including some of the 100,000 Iraqi who have lost their lives. In London’s Trafalgar Square, Stephen Hawkings, Harold Pinter, Juliet Stevenson and Mayor Ken Livingstone were among those who recited the names of the dead.
