Strasbourg: On Saturday, 12 June Palestinian, Israeli and European pacifists will unite in Strasbourg, France for a demonstration (Place Broglie, Strasbourg, Saturday, June 12 at 3.00pm). The group, along with Leila Shahid, general delegate for Palestine in France and European Parliament member Michael Warschawski, will launch The Strasbourg Appeal.
The appeal calls for “a fair and sustainable peace between Palestinians and Israeli’s” and demands “the government of Arial Sharon respects international and humanitarian law – which has been deliberately violated by the construction of the wall, by the deconstruction of hundreds of civilians’ homes entailing numerous casualties”.
The pacifists urge the European Union to suspend the European Union – Israel Association Agreement, signed in 1995, which grants preferential conditions for the import of Israeli products into Europe. This agreement, signed on the condition that the state of Israel would respect human rights, has been violated by the Israeli’s violent construction of the wall.
The appeal demands:
-The Suspension of the European Union – Israeli Association Agreement until the State of Israel respects human rights
-The immediate deployment of an international protection force for the Palestinian people
-The immediate and definitive retreat of the Israeli army from all the occupied territories as well as a real dismantling of the settlements and the wall
-Adoption by the United Nations of binding measures towards the State of Israel so that it finally applies the numerous UN resolutions relating to it.
