Scandinavia: On 4 August 2001, three Swedish activists from the "animal rights ploughshares style" group "Bye Bye Meat Industry" entered a slaughterhouse and "disarmed" equipment used to kill animals, causing £11,000 damage.
The activists then waited for the police to arrive and arrest them. In February 2002, at their trial, all three were found guilty of criminal damage. One activist (who had already served a month in prison for liberating hens during another action) was sentenced to eight months imprisonment. A second activist received six months and the third received community service. As ELP goes to print none of the activists have yet started their sentences.
