ACTION:
what you can do to stop the war
Don't participate in it. The one thing the warmongers need the most is your passive or active participation in this war. Either as complicit, accepting, bystanders - unprepared to stand up to their violence. Or by performing your role as a cog in the war machine: as a soldier/sailor/aircrew; a civil servant; an arms industry worker; a police officer; a media worker; a politician; a train driver; a haulier; an apologist.
Actively resist it. Get out on the streets! Especially in Britain and the US - the prime movers in the proposed conflict - and upset the complacency in any nonviolent way you can. "Normal" society cannot be allowed to continue "business as usual" while bombs are falling: occupy government buildings; go on strike; don't pay war taxes; boycott US products. Visit the military bases being prepared for the war (UK list available...) and nonviolently disrupt their operations. Don't let the warmongers have an easy ride!
Lobby against it. Write to everyone you can think of - however useless they are: the UN Security Council; the Foreign Office of Britain and the US; your local MPs; the military themselves.
Persuade others. Make your voice heard! Be visible in your opposition and you will give confidence to others to come out against the war publicly. Write letters to your local and national media and make sure any actions or demos are well media-managed; make sure the alternative media hears about your actions too - reading about actions around the world can be inspiring and encouraging.
Keep up the pressure. Don't give up. Sure it seems like an impossible struggle, against the odds, but why should that deter us? Is our commitment to preventing death and destruction any the less just because the odds are lousy? No! We've got to stick with it and build a movement - wherever we are.
