Menwith woman on painting charge

<*> Kate Witham has been charged with causing £21,504.34 damage to a radome at Menwith Hill, the US government spy station in North Yorkshire. She allegedly painted "Peace, truth, justice, freedom" in red hammerite paint and could face a one-year prison sentence if found guilty.

The women's peace camp at Menwith has now been permanent for a year and a half. While many women have spent time in prison for peace activities at the base, the charges against Kate are uncommonly heavy. Donations are needed for the Menwith defence fund, for other court and prison support, and for general support of the campers and their campaign.
