Support the Unity Fund

"Thank you very much for sending Peace News to us for free. They are a very useful resource for our activities."
Jedlo namiesto zbrani (Food not Bombs), Slovakia.

Help Peace News support activist groups and peace prisoners by donating a subscription. Peace News is regularly asked to provide free subscriptions to a wide range of groups and prisoners - predominantly these requests come from activists working in the Global South and Eastern Europe. Of course we would love to give away thousands of copies of PN to everyone who wants them, but sadly we cannot afford to do this.

So to help us cover costs, and to decide which groups we should offer a free one-year subscription to, we are asking our wealthier readers in the North to provide subscriptions which we can then give away (an international subscription costs £15). This will help in three ways: first, financially; second, by making the system less arbitrary; and third, by helping us to control the number of free subscriptions we give away.
Throughout the year we will give away subscriptions (on application) to needy groups who meet basic criteria, on a first-come first-served basis, providing there is money in the fund.

How to make a donation to the Unity Fund

  • Online donation by credit card
  • By cheque or bank draft made out to "Peace News", in £ sterling, drawn on a British bank or building society;
  • By cheque made out to "War Resisters' International" in local currency (or Euro) for the following countries: Belgium, France, Germany, Netherlands, New Zealand/Aotearoa and USA;
  • By GIRO transfer to the WRI giro account number 585 20 4004 in Britain

    Important: Please note that we cannot accept cash in any currency. Thank you.

    Criteria for Unity Fund

  • Groups and prisoners will qualify if they identify as antimilitarist, nonviolent and are actively working for peace.
  • Free subscriptions will not be given to individuals except peace prisoners serving six months or longer sentence.
  • Generally, groups based within Western Europe, the US and Japan (except in exceptional circumstances, by negotiation), will not qualify.
  • Peace prisoners will be eligible irrespective of where they are imprisoned.
  • Free subscriptions will be given for one year (4 issues) at a time.
  • Free subscriptions will only be given on direct written application.
  • The number of free subscriptions given each year will directly relate to the amount of money in the Unity Fund. When this money runs out no more free subscriptions will be given.
  • Free subscriptions will be given on a first-come first served basis. But when two or more applications are received at the same time, priority will be given to the most economically needy and those closest to Peace News' core politics. The Peace News staff will make this decision.
  • Peace News reserves the right to withhold free subscriptions which do not meet this basic criteria
  • Peace News reserves the right to withdraw free subscriptions from groups or prisoners at any time, for any reason, and without recourse.
